The Nationals may have added an experienced arm to their bullpen on Monday.

The team reportedly agreed to a one-year Major League contract with free-agent reliever Joaquin Benoit for $1 million, pending a physical. ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick first reported the deal and the terms were reported by the Washington Post.

Benoit, 40, was 1-6 with a 4.65 ERA and two saves in 52 relief appearances last season with the Phillies and Pirates. Benoit is 58-49 with a 3.83 ERA over 764 career appearances over a 16-year major league career. After starting the season in Philadelphia’s bullpen, Benoit was dealt to the Pirates at the trading deadline for a minor league pitcher.
