SEATTLE (AP) - A man was fatally shot by police in northeast Seattle following a chase and car crash.

KOMO-TV reports the incident started at about 4:20 a.m. Monday when 911 dispatchers received reports of a car prowler on 34th Avenue NE.

When officers arrived, the suspect jumped from a car and fled on foot. While running, he turned and fired a shot at officers. None was hit.

One officer returned fire and missed.

Soon afterward, police received a report of the suspect breaking into a home and stealing a vehicle at gunpoint.

The suspect left in the stolen vehicle and police opened fire again. This time the suspect was hit and crashed the vehicle.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
