ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - A former western New York police officer who admitted to stalking his ex-girlfriend will spend five years in prison.

WHEC says former Irondequoit (uh-RAHN’-duh-kwoyt) officer William Rosica was sentenced Thursday in Rochester.

Prosecutors say Rosica executed “a non-stop sadistic campaign of terror and psychological torture.”

From March 2016 to February 2017, the victim was targeted with harassing text messages, phone calls, and emails. Investigators say Rosica used false names and fake email accounts.

The Irondequoit police chief and town supervisor issued a statement praising the victim for bravely coming forward.

They say the defendant’s actions do not represent the department’s four dozen officers, who “serve with dignity” and protect the community from “terrible domestic abuse like this.”
