HOUSTON (AP) - A Texas man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to driving drunk and killing three members of a family.

A release from the Harris County District Attorney’s Office says 27-year-old Jeremy Paul Valdez of Tomball was sentenced Thursday, four days into a jury trial. He has three prior convictions for drunk driving.

The release says Valdez was driving a pickup truck at 106 mph in May 2016 when he ran a red light and smashed into a compact sedan carrying the family. Valdez had a blood-alcohol content of nearly three times the legal limit.
