PHOENIX (AP) - The Latest on U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Phoenix to criticize the Republican tax cuts (all times local):

2 p.m.

Democratic U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi is highlighting what she says will be the dire effects to the middle class from recently enacted Republican tax cuts during a visit to Phoenix.

The House minority leader said during a town hall Tuesday that Republicans plan to cut Medicaid and Medicare to help pay for the tax cuts. She called Medicaid a “middle-class” benefit because 2/3 goes to care for long-term care for the elderly.

Pelosi was joined at the event by other Democrats including Rep. Raul Grijalva, state Rep. Tony Navarette and David Lujan of the Arizona Center for Economic Progress.

Pelosi’s visit is part of a 100-city tour hosted by Democrats to highlight their opposition to tax legislation passed late last year.

Grijalva will attend a similar event in Tucson on Wednesday.
