The Rev. Billy Graham’s body will lie in honor at the U.S. Capitol next week, House Speaker Paul D. Ryan said Thursday.

Mr. Graham, an evangelical Christian dubbed “America’s Pastor” for his prominence in America’s faith life in the late 20th Century, died earlier this week.

“In recognition of Rev. Graham’s long and distinguished service to the nation, it is our intention to ask the House of Representatives and the Senate to permit that his remains lie in honor in the Rotunda of the Capitol,” Mr. Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said in a letter to the Graham family.
