BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Police in Vermont say a woman who was shot in the chest as a bar was closing is expected to survive.

Police say there was no known connection between the 26-year-old woman and 37-year-old Rashad Nashid, who allegedly fired two shots from a handgun outside the Main Street bar Nectars in Burlington around 2 a.m. Monday. The woman was in serious condition.

Nashid was arrested by police a short time later without further incident.

Police say Nashid, a convicted felon, was prohibited from possessing a firearm and he was facing trial for a drug charge from last September.

Nashid is being held on a federal firearms charge. Further charges are possible.

It could not immediately be determined if Nashid has a lawyer.
