ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Prosecutors have dropped all charges against one of three men accused of beating a 15-year-old Maryland student who refused to join the MS-13 street gang.

The Capital reports all charges against 19-year-old Juan Carlos Sandoval-Rodrigues were dropped Tuesday, but state’s attorney officials didn’t provide a reason.

Sandoval-Rodrigues was among three indicted on assault and gang-related charges after the Annapolis High School student told the principal he was attacked near school grounds in March 2017. Authorities are still searching for 18-year-old Irving Orellana in connection with the attack, but 18-year-old Erving Arrue-Figueroa is set to go to trial next month.

Sandoval-Rodrigues was walked to holding in handcuffs after court. His attorney told the newspaper he was filling in for a public defender and didn’t know why Sandoval-Rodrigues was being held.
