GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - Police say a Mississippi man has been charged with aggravated DUI after an accident that critically injured a girl and seriously injured two other minors.

Police Sgt. Clayton Fulks tells news outlets that 31-year-old Christopher Joseph Garrett allegedly was impaired when he ran a stop sign.

According to Gulfport police, the two-vehicle crash Saturday night critically injured the 11-year-old girl and seriously injured the 12- and 17-year-olds.

The crash occurred as patrol officers were looking for a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe. A caller had reported the driver appeared to be impaired.

The Tahoe hit a vehicle occupied by several people. People in the vehicle told officers the Tahoe ran a stop sign and struck them.

Garrett was also arrested on several charges including running a stop sign. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.
