WAYNE, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a New Jersey mother was killed and her 6-year-old child was seriously injured when they were hit by a car on a northern New Jersey street, marking the second pedestrian death on the roadway in two days.

Wayne police say the two victims were crossing Valley Road when they were struck about 7 p.m. Tuesday.

They were taken to a hospital, where the woman died a short time later. The child suffered serious injuries and remained hospitalized Wednesday, but further details were not disclosed.
