CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire lawmakers have heard from a crowd of supporters, and a handful of opponents, as they took up a proposal to add a victims’ bill of rights to the New Hampshire Constitution.
If the Legislature approves the proposal, voters would be asked in November whether to amend the constitution to give crime victims a greater voice in court proceedings, as well as more information about the accused.
Republican Gov. Chris Sununu told a Senate committee Tuesday that New Hampshire doesn’t amend its constitution lightly, but that putting victims on equal footing with the accused is worth the effort.

A large group of victims, attorneys and other advocates joined him in supporting the bill, though there were some opponents, including New Hampshire Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union.
