TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) - A former sheriff’s deputy has been released from prison after serving time in an overbilling scheme involving a western Indiana school district.
Frank Shahadey was sentenced in October to 16 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to fraud and theft, but the 61-year-old Terre Haute man had been in custody since November 2016.
The (Terre Haute) Tribune-Star reports online Bureau of Prison records show Shahadey was released from prison Dec. 29.

The former Vigo County sheriff’s deputy was the department’s liaison to the Vigo County School Corp. and a part-time district employee.
Prosecutors say he took part in a kickback scheme that cost the district more than $100,000.
Former district administrator Franklin Fennell was convicted in December of wire fraud, theft and lying to federal agents. He’s awaiting sentencing.
