NBC News on Tuesday officially named veteran reporter Hoda Kotb to replace disgraced anchor Matt Lauer on the “Today” show.

Mr. Lauer was fired late last year for alleged sexual misconduct amid the national movement to address workplace harassment. The report came as a shock, per Mr. Lauer’s former on air colleague Savannah Guthrie when addressing the issue on “Today.”

“This has to be the most popular decision NBC News have ever made, and I’m so thrilled,” Ms. Guthrie said.

She will anchor the first two hours with Ms. Guthrie and continue to co-host the fourth hour with Kathie Lee Gifford.
