MILLVILLE, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a man died in an officer-involved shooting in New Jersey after calling emergency dispatchers to say he had a gun, but no weapon was found.

The Cumberland County prosecutor’s office says 47-year-old Edward Gandy Jr. called 911 shortly before 11 a.m. Monday “to report that he had a loaded firearm” and gave a location in Millville.

Police responded and found him, and Gandy was shot and killed. The prosecutor’s office says no firearm was recovered from the location.

County prosecutors are investigating and an autopsy is planned. The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave.
