MONROE, La. (AP) - Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a 26-year-old police officer.

Trooper Michael Reichardt says in a news release that Monroe Police Officer Christopher Beaudion was on duty when his patrol car crossed two lanes of oncoming traffic and hit a tree early Sunday in Monroe.

The Ouachita (WASH-ih-tah) Parish Coroner’s Office says his body was sent to Arkansas for an autopsy.

State police say cause of the accident is under investigation.

Monroe Police say on their Facebook page that Beaudion had been with the department since August 2016.

He is survived by his parents, his wife and their two children.
