Arizona Cardinals President Michael Bidwill is facing criticism after he organized a letter of support for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh

Bidwill and Kavanaugh have been friends for more than 37 years, Bidwill told the Cardinals website. The two went to Georgetown Prep in the District.

The crafted letter was sent out Monday after President Trump nominated Cavanaugh to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy, who is retiring.

Critics say Bidwill’s actions are hypocritical, given the NFL’s desire to avoid politics. Bidwill used the Cardinals website to voice his support.

Bidwill told the team website that Kavanaugh “is a man of high character.”

“The purpose of the letter is to talk about Brett as a person,” Bidwill said. “We have known him and known what a brilliant mind he has. He’s eminently qualified. I think now that he’s been selected by the president, he will go through a thorough vetting process and as they go through that process they will learn about the great person we know.”
