BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A standoff in Bismarck ended after about five hours after the man who had barricaded himself in a house apparently shot and killed himself.

Officers responded to the house Sunday afternoon after a report of a possible robbery and gunshot.

Members of a SWAT team eventually entered the home Sunday night after attempts to communicate failed and found the 59-year-old man dead. He wasn’t immediately identified.

Police say the incident began when the man who died got into some sort of altercation with another man who was trying to buy something from him. The other man isn’t charged with anything.

No officers were injured. Police evacuated a few nearby homes during the incident due to a natural gas odor from the house. Utility workers came and shut off the gas.
