PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Residents of a Rhode Island neighborhood will soon be offered library services while they’re at the local laundromat, flea market and bus station.
The Providence Community Library and nonprofit Libraries Without Borders are partnering to engage with Olneyville residents on Saturdays, especially around sensitive issues like immigration and housing law.
The pilot Legal Literacy Initiative started Saturday and continues until Sept. 8.
It will be at the Showcase Laundromat, flea market on Manton Avenue and bus station at Olneyville Square. Library staff will also visit the Manton Heights housing development.
Residents can use computer tablets at each location to access legal resources and information about digital literacy, learning English, health and job opportunities.
The program hopes to establish a permanent space in Olneyville.
