MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Portions of Mobile-area coastal waters that were closed to oyster harvesting last week have been reopened.
The Alabama Department of Public Health had closed Area II of Mobile Bay-area waters, which includes Portersville Bay, due to water sample testing that showed unacceptable levels of bacteria. State Health Officer Dr. Scott Harris says the area, which lies on the north side of the Mississippi Sound, opposite Dauphin Island, was open as of 10 a.m. Thursday.
News outlets report the July 20 closure did not affect any waters inside Mobile Bay itself.
