Wayne Rooney scored his first Major League Soccer goal in the 33rd minute and D.C. United went ahead on a 90th minute own goal to beat the Colorado Rapids 2-1 Saturday night at Audi Field.
Rooney received a pass on the right side of the box and snuck it between the legs of Rapids keeper Tim Howard, his former teammate at Manchester United and once the U.S. national team starter.
With the score 1-1 late, Ulises Segura took a chance on goal and the ball deflected off Colorado’s Niki Jackson and in for an own goal.
Rooney’s eventful night did not stop with his goal. He later collided with a Rapids player defending a corner kick and ended up with a broken nose and stitches:
It was also Rooney’s first night as United’s captain. The club is 2-2-0 since Rooney began playing and 2-1-0 at Audi Field.
