NEW YORK (AP) - A New York City candy factory that was devastated by Superstorm Sandy has finally reopened for business.

The Madelaine Chocolate Company located along Rockaway Beach in Queens had been one of the biggest employers in the borough. WCBS 880 reports it had 450 jobs and was the city’s biggest chocolate factory until it was destroyed by 2012’s storm.

The factory sustained $50 million in damage. CEO Jorge Farber says four feet of water rushed into the factory.

Today, Farber is keeping eye on a revitalized factory - helped by a $20 million loan from the Small Business Administration.

The rebuilt factory now has electronics above the machinery, so if the water floods it again, the damage will not be as severe.
