NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut’s ABC television affiliate is celebrating its 70th anniversary.

The station began as WNHC-TV in June, 1948, going on the air at channel 6 out of a former funeral parlor in New Haven.

The station moved up on the VHF dial to channel 8 in 1953 and changed its call letters to WTNH-TV in 1971.

The station has been known for its innovation, from producing an early children’s show “Happy the Clown” in 1952 to becoming the first station in the state with its own news website in the 1990s.
