ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - The Anaheim Police Department is investigating the death of a 46-year-old man authorities say died after a “brief altercation” with officers.

The Los Angeles Times reported Sunday that officers were called to a street Saturday afternoon where witnesses reported a man darting in and out of traffic, seemingly trying to get cars to hit him.

Anaheim police say when officers tried to handcuff the man he resisted. When they placed him on the ground they noticed he was in medical distress.

Police say officers administered a drug used to counteract overdoses and called an ambulance.

The man, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police say the officers never struck the man with a baton or used a stun gun to subdue him.
