SEATTLE (AP) - Firefighters were fighting a fire that broke out on a barge in South Seattle.

The Seattle Fire Department said on Twitter at about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday that crews were actively fighting the blaze on the Duwamish Waterway in the Georgetown neighborhood.

The fire department tweeted photos that appeared to show crushed, scrapped cars with flames and a large plume of black smoke. Another photo showed that firefighters on a boat were also working to put out the fire.

The U.S. Coast Guard said on Twitter that officials were monitoring the fire and would respond as needed.

No further information was immediately available.
