BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A former Louisiana state lawmaker is running for the secretary of state’s job.

A.G. Crowe, a Pearl River Republican, announced his candidacy Tuesday. In a statement, he said he’ll work to protect election integrity and improve business services offered through the department.

He joins Rep. Julie Stokes, a Jefferson Parish Republican, in seeking the position on the Nov. 6 ballot. A special election is being held because Republican Tom Schedler resigned after one of his employees accused him of sexual harassment in a lawsuit.

Crowe is a former St. Tammany Parish School Board member who later was elected to the Louisiana Legislature, first the House and then the Senate. He was a state lawmaker from 2000 until 2016. He is the former founder and CEO of a records management company.
