De’Andre Hunter, a redshirt freshman guard who was named ACC Sixth Man of the Year, will miss the NCAA Tournament with a broken left wrist, Virginia coach Tony Bennett announced Tuesday.

Hunter sustained the injury during last week’s ACC Tournament.

Virginia has not played without Hunter this season. He averaged 9.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per game off the bench for the Cavaliers, and also made the All-ACC Freshman Team.

Virginia played most of the season with an eight-man rotation, with only Hunter, Nigel Johnson and Mamadi Diakite coming off the bench. The Cavaliers will need to re-tool their plans for the national tourney as a result of this loss.

The No. 1 overall seed in the tournament, Virginia will tip off its tournament run against No. 16 UMBC on Friday night.
