PANAMA CITY, Fla. (AP) - An Alabama man who took a plea agreement in a Florida teen’s fatal shooting during what authorities described as an apparent drug rip-off is requesting leniency.

The Panama City News Herald reported Monday that Rodney Jones submitted a letter to the judge earlier this month calling his involvement in the death of 16-year-old Jason Ian Price a “huge mistake” and saying he didn’t know the charge he admitted to carries “so much time.”

Jones, who was 17 when the shooting happened in August, faces up to 20 years in prison. He pleaded guilty last month to robbery with a deadly weapon under the agreement and agreed to testify against the alleged shooter and another defendant.

Investigators say all three are from Auburn, Alabama.
