OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - An Omaha woman has been accused of fatally injuring her 5-month-old daughter.
Court records say Ashley Newburn is charged with felony child abuse resulting in death. The records don’t list the name of an attorney who could comment for Newburn.
Authorities say her little girl, Justice Layton, suffered eye bleeding and brain swelling. A court document says Newburn told an investigator that she was alone with her daughter when the girl stopped breathing and went limp. The investigator says Newburn refused to say what caused the girl’s injuries.
Newburn’s 6-year-old child has been placed in state custody.
