WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) - A Maryland school district will add more law enforcement officers to its campuses starting Wednesday to improve safety and security.

A Carroll County Public Schools statement says county commissioners will fund the additional county sheriff’s office deputies for schools throughout the county for the remainder of the school year. It says that meanwhile, the sheriff’s office, county public schools and commissioners will explore the possibility of staffing a full school resource officer program.

The statement says the deputies will interact with students and faculty while acting as visible deterrents to criminal activity across the entire school system.
