JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A teenager died and five others received life-threatening injuries after their car veered off a highway and hit a tree in northeast Florida.

The Florida Times-Union reports that 19-year-old Courtney Cox, the driver, was killed Friday in the crash on Interstate 295 in Jacksonville.

The Florida Highway Patrol says the crash occurred at about 11 p.m. when the teenagers’ car veered off the roadway onto a shoulder for an unknown reason.

Injured were 16-year-olds Kayla Rittenhouse, Jimmy Mullis, Maycee Joiner and Alyssa Davis, and 14-year-old Rachly Catlin.
