GREENWOOD, S.C. (AP) - Police say a former newspaper CEO in South Carolina has been charged with embezzling $15,000 from his paper.

Investigators say 61-year-old Ed Gunderson had money paid to The Index-Journal of Greenwood for for digital marketing services given to a third-party contractor run by his wife.

The newspaper reports when it fired Gunderson in August, it required him to pay back the $15,000. Gunderson since filed for bankruptcy and the $15,000 is listed as a debt.

The newspaper says it called police about the stolen money in October.

Gunderson wouldn’t talk to the newspaper about the breach of trust charge against him and says he plans to defend himself.
