ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - State officials say a former Maryland state senator who resigned and has pleaded guilty to fraud charges in a federal bribery case will still appear on the ballot for the June Democratic primary.

Jared DeMarinis is chief of candidacy for the Maryland State Board of Elections. DeMarinis told The Baltimore Sun Friday that at the time of the filing deadline, Nathaniel Oaks met all the requirements for the offices he sought.

The 71-year-old Baltimore Democrat will be on the ballot as a candidate for Senate and the Democratic Party’s central committee for his district.

Oaks pleaded guilty to wire fraud and honest services fraud Thursday, hours after he resigned.

The newspaper reports it’s not clear whether Oaks will actively campaign. He will face prison time when sentenced July 17.

Neither he nor his public defender responded to requests for comment.
