MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (AP) - Transportation officials in South Carolina say a bridge closed when a cable that ties it together snapped will open in advance of the new work week.

The S.C. Department of Transportation says lane closures on Interstate 526 near the approaches to the cross-overs will be intermittent through Sunday. The plan is to open the eastbound lanes of the Wando River Bridge for two-way traffic on Sunday in preparation for the Monday commute.

SCDOT is also advising motorists to choose their own travel route. The Wando River Bridge two-way traffic plan is another option to existing traffic management plans. Message boards will alert motorist to proper driving precautions as they approach the cross-overs.
