IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - An eastern Iowa church youth leader accused of molesting children has taken a plea deal.

Court records say 33-year-old Benjamin Tweedt, of North Liberty, filed written guilty pleas on Wednesday in Johnson County to two counts of misdemeanor indecent contact. Seven other counts of sex abuse, lascivious acts and indecent contact are to be dropped in return for his pleas.

The deal described in the records say he’s agreed to a four-year prison term, suspended, two years of probation and a 10-year listing on the Iowa Sex Offender Registry.

The deal isn’t binding on a judge, however. The records don’t list a sentencing date.

Police have said Tweedt groped children he knew through Parkview Church in Iowa City, where he was a youth leader during the past several years.
