MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont had the highest-per capita number of Olympians of any state participating in this year’s winter games in South Korea.
On Thursday, Republican Gov. Phil Scott honored them and two Paralympians at a Statehouse ceremony.
He told the athletes, “You’ve made us all proud,” and said they have been role models for countless aspiring athletes and fans, and an inspiration for Vermonters.
Snowboarder Kelly Clark said growing up in Vermont got them ready for the cold temperatures and wind in Korea. Cross-country skier Ida Sargent said the unified Korean team was a special part of the games.
Also in attendance were hockey player Amanda Pelkey, skier Ryan Cochran-Seigle, biathletes Emily Dreissigacker and Susan Dunklee, cross country skier Kaitlynn Miller and Paralympian skier Spencer Wood.
