CONIFER, Colo. (AP) - A SWAT team rescued a Colorado woman from her home, where she had been held hostage for days and assaulted by her 37-year-old son.

Jefferson County officials tell The Denver Post SWAT members pulled the 69-year-old woman out of the house through a window at about 11 p.m. Monday.

The woman’s 76-year-old husband had escaped the house in Conifer at about 6:45 p.m. Monday and called 911.

Sheriff’s spokesman Mark Techmeyer said the son reportedly held his parents at gunpoint for several days, severely beat his father and assaulted his mother, who had recently undergone surgery.

The heavily armed suspect was believed to be alone in the house Tuesday morning. Authorities had been unable to make contact with him.

Neighbors were advised to shelter in place.
