BUCYRUS, Ohio (AP) - The State Highway Patrol says two women have been killed when an SUV failed to yield at a stop sign and was struck by a dump truck in northern Ohio.

The patrol says the collision occurred shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday in Crawford County’s Lykens Township. The driver of the SUV has been identified as 43-year-old Tonya Laferty and the passenger as 40-year-old Kisten Singer, both of Bucyrus (byoo-SY’-rus).

The driver of the dump truck, 55-year-old Clifford Alt, of Tiro, was flown to a Columbus hospital with serious injuries.

The patrol says the SUV was partially pinned beneath the dump truck, trapping the women. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Drugs or alcohol don’t appear to be factors in the crash.
