The Kansas City Chiefs traded Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins last winter because they felt Pat Mahomes was ready to take over under center.

Just 10 games into this season, Mahomes did something neither Smith nor any other Kansas City quarterback had ever done: throw 31 touchdown passes in one year.

Mahomes rang up No. 31 Sunday, his second touchdown pass of the Chiefs’ game against the Arizona Cardinals. He Hall of Famer Len Dawson’s franchise record of 30.

What’s absurd is how much time is left in the season. The quarterback is on pace to throw for 50 touchdowns at the pace he’s on.
