The NHL Department of Player Safety has fined Josh Morrissey of the Winnipeg Jets $8,467.74 for unsportsmanlike conduct after he slammed Washington Capitals forward T.J. Oshie to the ice Wednesday night.
The amount represents the maximum fine allowed under the collective bargaining agreement.
It’s unclear yet how much game action Oshie will miss, but he left Wednesday’s game and did not return.
Capitals coach Todd Reirden said after the game, a 3-1 loss to the Jets, that he thought the league would review that play.
In fact, the Capitals lost two top-six forwards to injury during that game. Evgeny Kuznetsov left in the first period after taking this hit to the head from Brandon Tanev:
However, the Department of Player Safety did not announce that Tanev’s hit garnered a hearing.
