WATERLOO, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio town is celebrating the exploits of a Depression-era basketball team that took the state by storm nearly 90 years ago.
The tiny team from Waterloo in southern Ohio known as the Waterloo Wonders won back-to-back state championships in the early 1930s and at one point had a 56-game winning streak. The village is 106 miles (171 kilometers) south of Columbus.
The team was famous for precision ball-handling skills unknown at the time. Several members turned pro after graduation and traveled around the country playing professional teams and the Harlem Globetrotters.

Waterloo celebrates the first Wonder Day on Oct. 13, to include the rededication of a historical marker commemorating the team. The intent is to establish an annual celebration.
