They’re not ranked in the Top 25 quite yet, but after Maryland upset nationally-ranked Texas to open the season for the second straight year, the Terrapins are back on the national radar.
Maryland received 12 votes in the Associated Press Top 25 college football poll this week, the sixth-most of any team outside the rankings — effectively naming it the 31st-best team in the voters’ eyes.
Even stronger was the Terrapins’ showing in ESPN’s College Football Power Rankings. ESPN ranked Maryland 18th in the country this week based on the Texas upset.
Meanwhile, Kasim Hill seems to have earned the starting quarterback job for good by leading his team to the upset over the Longhorns. Last week, the team’s official depth chart released to the media had Hill and Tyrrell Pigrome both on the first string.

Hill, a redshirt freshman, threw for 222 yards and a touchdown on 17-for-29 passing. Pigrome also saw time on the field, completing 3-of-4 passes for 22 yards.
Next up for Maryland is a trip to Bowling Green on Saturday at 6 p.m.
