PHILADELPHIA (AP) - An ex-assistant to the former mayor of an eastern Pennsylvania city has been sentenced to five years of probation in a bribery case.

The (Allentown) Morning Call reports that 39-year-old Eron Lloyd was ordered Monday to spend six months of his probationary sentence on home confinement.

Lloyd, a former assistant to former Reading mayor Vaughn Spencer, pleaded guilty in 2015 to conspiracy to commit bribery in what federal prosecutors called a scheme to gain repeal of a campaign finance limit.

Defense attorney Shaka Johnson suggested that her client was a “people pleaser” who wanted to avoid conflict, and that’s why he didn’t object to the scheme.

Spencer was convicted in August of nine counts of bribery as well as wire fraud and conspiracy.
