President Trump reportedly said he didn’t understand why George Washington didn’t name his property after himself during a guided tour of Mount Vernon last April.

“If he was smart, he would’ve put his name on it. You’ve got to put your name on stuff, or no one remembers you,” Mr. Trump said, according to three sources speaking to Politico who were familiar with the dialogue.

The tour guide, Mount Vernon President and CEO Doug Bradburn, responded Washington was able to get his name put on the nation’s capital, to which Mr. Trump responded “good point.”

During the tour with French President Emmanuel Macron, Mr. Bradburn “was desperately trying to get [Mr. Trump] interested in” the first president’s house, but Mr. Trump became invested in finding out that Washington was one of the wealthiest Americans at the time due to his real estate, Politico reported.
