MADISONVILLE, La. (AP) - A company is bringing back to life an idled barge-manufacturing facility in Louisiana.

Company officials say Arcosa Marine will spend $7.5 million to reopen its facility in Madisonville, resulting in 149 jobs.

The New Orleans Advocate reports Arcosa was spun off from Dallas-based Trinity Industries. Trinity Marine Products Inc., a division of Trinity Industries, was the last company to operate the facility, which has been largely idle since being closed in December 2015.

When the plant closed, 336 people were working there. Company President Thomas Faherty said Wednesday encouraging conditions in the barge construction market led to the facility’s reopening. He says they will install new equipment and make facility upgrades to produce barges for delivery later this year.

The new jobs will have an annual salary of $51,400.
