NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts man has been charged for allegedly ordering his pit bull dog to attack a 13-year-old girl.

South Coast Today reports that 28-year-old Jerry Chery, of New Bedford, is charged with assault and battery and other offenses.

The victim, from New Bedford, was bitten four times on her right arm, left leg and back and required treatment at a hospital.

Court documents say the April 5 attack stemmed from a disagreement between the victim and Chery’s stepdaughter.

Court records say Chery yelled for the leashed dog to “get her” and “attack.”

Chery was held without bail Wednesday pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for next week.

He told police he was only trying to scare the victim and other children and did not know the dog bit her.
