WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - A Delaware man is facing up to life in prison after pleading guilty but mentally ill to fatally stabbing his girlfriend.

Authorities said Friday that 38-year-old Rondell Veal will be sentenced in September after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the September 2017 stabbing of Sherrie Campbell at their home in Newark.

Police discovered Campbell’s body after family members reported that she had failed to pick up her son from daycare

Veal fled to New York City, where officers found him in a hospital recovering from injuries he received during a suicide attempt.
