SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Thirteen current and former Springfield, Massachusetts police officers have been arraigned on charges of either participating in or helping cover up an attack on four men outside a city bar in 2015.

Their attorneys entered not guilty pleas on their behalf at their arraignments Thursday in Hampden Superior Court. They were released without bail and ordered to stay away from the alleged victims.

Six officers are charged with assault and battery in connection with the off-duty altercation outside Nathan Bill’s Bar and Restaurant in April 2015. The incident started with some sort of dispute inside the bar. Several current officers, one former officer and a bar manager are charged with misleading investigators, filing false police reports and perjury.

Lawyers for some of the officers say their clients are innocent.
