WASHINGTON (AP) - The housing authority of Washington, D.C., is accused of not doing enough to prevent the death of a 10-year-old girl who was gunned down while in the courtyard of a city-run apartment complex.
WTOP-FM reports a lawsuit was filed Wednesday against the District Housing Authority by the parents and sister of Makiyah Wilson, who was killed while on her way to get ice cream last summer.
The lawsuit says the agency failed to provide adequate security despite the complex’s proximity to dozens of violent crimes and resident requests for higher security.
Authorities have said Makiyah wasn’t the target of the four masked men who fired gunshots into the crowded courtyard in July. The shooting wounded several people, one of whom is also suing the agency in the lawsuit.
