UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) - Mohegan tribal police and the state police major crime squad are investigating the discovery of skeletal remains on tribal land.

The tribal police department says the remains were found Thursday at about 9 a.m. by a public works crew in the woods adjacent to Cove Road, which is about five miles south of the Mohegan Sun casino and near Horton Cove and the Thames River.

Police say they are being assisted in their investigation by the New London State’s Attorney’s Office and the medical examiner.

Authorities have not identified the remains or determined a time or cause of death.
