HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut health officials have confirmed the third case of measles in the state this year.
The state Department of Public Health said Friday that an adult in from New Haven County contracted the highly contagious virus after being exposed to it on a trip to Brooklyn, New York last month.
Officials say the case isn’t connected to the state’s two previous measles cases but is linked to an outbreak in New York City. Connecticut had three cases of measles all last year.
State Public Health Commissioner Renee Coleman-Mitchell says the best protection from the illness is vaccination. She said the state has high vaccination rates, so there’s low risk for an outbreak.
Measles symptoms include high fever and skin rashes that can appear a week or two after infection.
